This list is by no means comprehensive, but it is a great starting point to find out more about gifted kids, sensory kids, and alternative education. If you have a great resource that you would like me to add, please let me know!

Books
Misdiagnosis and Dual Diagnoses of Gifted Children and Adults: ADHD, Bipolar, Ocd, Asperger's, Depression, and Other Disorders I can't say enough about how much this book has changed my perception of mental illness and issues related to giftedness. Although it is quite possible for a child to be both gifted and have a DSM diagnosis, it is imperative that you first understand how giftedness often looks like other diagnoses. Living with Intensity This was the first book I read after my daughter was assessed. Not only did I see my daughter in the descriptions, but I also saw myself. Very validating and healing. Parenting a Child Who Has Intense Emotions: Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills to Help Your Child Regulate Emotional Outbursts and Aggressive Behaviors This is an excellent parenting book for anyone who struggles with an emotionally intense child. It is also great if you find that you can often be an emotionally intense parent! Your Fantastic Elastic Brain This is a wonderful book for children that explains the brain. I love it for gifted children because it does a remarkable job of explaining how making mistakes actually helps the brain to grow... which is an important lesson for kids who have a tendency to become very perfectionistic and fear failure. Smart but Scattered This book tackles the huge subject of executive skills. It helps parents to identify their children's strengths as well as areas needing of assistance. Lots of practical advice. Other Great Books! The Out of Sync Child One of the first books to really understand SPD and its challenges Executive Skills in Children and Adolescents Another excellent book about executive functioning skills. Parenting Gifted Kids: Tips for Raising Happy and Successful Gifted Children Raising a Gifted Child: A Parenting Success Handbook Emotional Intensity in Gifted Students: Helping Kids Cope with Explosive Feelings |
